PRAYING TO THE GOD OF OPRAH
I know this posting is going to strike a nerve with a lot of people. If you never read my postings again because of it I understand. Don’t get me wrong. I have been a faithful viewer of The Oprah Show for years. I remember when she had an afro and it was A.M. Chicago. Oprah is one to be admired. She has worked diligently to build her career. As she began her spiritual journey we traveled the path with her. But many of you have given her a place in your life that only GOD deserves. Many have selective memory. You’ve obviously forgotten a time when Oprah wouldn’t acknowledge GOD and would say things like a “Higher Being” or a “Higher Power.” But she didn’t say GOD.
Listen I’m not knocking her. When we know better we do better. Part of it I attribute to not being evolved enough to give credit where credit is due. The other side is the skeptic that says she wouldn’t say or acknowledge GOD for fear of retribution from her audience; which we all know is primarily white women. Believe me; she didn’t get to be a billionaire by happenstance. Everything has been very calculated to cater to her audience.
I admit I’ve had some “aha moments” with some of the interviews and information that she’s shared, but I didn’t see her really acknowledging GOD until we came to the end of her 25 year reign. How she stays grounded with the all the influence she has is GOD.
Like many of us I believe she is a messenger and not the message. People tend to get the messenger confused with the message. They are not the same. There are times when the FATHER may impart a message for you to share that is beyond your comprehension and understanding. Just because you don’t have complete understanding doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be shared. HIS ways are not our ways. Will we or can we truly understand GOD? I think GOD is something we have to continually seek and we are constantly learning Spirituality. It’s a life lesson that we never stop learning; at least I hope not.
Just like church; when you hear the minister preach you have to understand and know the Word of GOD for yourself. When you hear truth you recognize it from wherever it comes. GOD has used this Sister to bless millions, but she is not GOD. This is a prime example of people confusing the message with the messenger. It happens all the time in the church. So many people I know deal with the Pastor of their church as if he was God. Remember they are fallible human beings like the rest of us. Actually I need save this for another post.
Oprah Winfrey has worked hard to get to where she is. She is an educated intelligent woman who has been generous enough to share herself with the world. My issue is with those who have dealt with Oprah as if she was responsible for their Spiritual well-being. As if she was taking them to church. There is a Heaven and a hell that exists. We are all personally responsible for our own Spiritual well-being. This is a journey and path we should all be on.
I think she has been a role model for many. But to think that we as women can wake up and be billionaires following the Oprah mantra is ridiculous. We all have our purpose in life. It is a personal mission from GOD and a destiny that we are charged to fulfill. I wish I could tell my Sisters that you too one day will wake up and have the wealth and influence of Oprah. But I see greatness in you. I know your life has purpose. You have yet to touch the tip of what GOD has for you. So stop envying Oprah and putting your faith and trust in someone you only connect with through the television. If you’re going to pray; pray to the GOD that has never neither left you nor forsaken you. Pray to the ONE who is truly the head of your life. If you haven’t accepted HIM and have been praying to the God of Oprah now is the time to stop.
