SEXY OR NO CLASS?
I posted something that got me thinking. We live in a society that seems to condone overtly sexual behavior. This is not just coming from girls/women. Men do it too. I had someone request my friendship on Facebook and I refused until he removed something from his information. I originally joined Facebook to stay connected to my former students. I don’t mind setting the example.
My daughter talks about some of the things I’ve worn over the years, but if she’s detailed she knows that the most scandalous things I’ve worn were for the stage, and for the runway. Have I worn a fitted suit? Of course I have. Everybody likes to look good and everyone wants to show off their assets. The things I’ve worn on stage and on the runway would be inappropriate outside of those arenas. I recognize that. One of my Facebook friends was kind enough to point that out. No, you don’t see Beyoncé or Rihanna wearing their stage clothes on the street. Somehow our girls have gotten it confused. Even Lady Gaga doesn’t wear those outrageous costumes around town. How ridiculous is that?
Okay I’m going to hurt some feelings here. When did these young girls become so out of shape? When we were teenagers our bodies were slamming! We just weren’t aware of it. If older men approached us it wasn’t going to happen, and we were quick to label them as perverts. And they were!! Now these young girls are so flattered by the attention that they consider this person a potential mate. Here we go. What I was talking about earlier? NO HOME TRAINING (inside joke). Why would you be flattered? I believe this is called statutory rape. Consensual sex? Girl please.
The standards have become lax. Yes, I blame the parents. I know over the years we have more and more teenage Mothers that haven’t been taught certain standards, but that’s no excuse. When you know better you do better. As educated adults we need to reach back and teach them what we know. It’s our duty. “Service is the rent we pay to be living. It is the very purpose of life and not something you do in your spare time.” ~ Marian Wright Edelman These are words to live by.
I have to go back to a point made earlier. Excuse me but one size does not fit all. I don’t only see young girls doing this, but adult women too. If you don’t have a mirror please make that investment. Everyone can see it. We try to ignore it, but it’s hard. Why would you want to look like a street walker? A friend was saying that she tried to say something to a young lady and instead of hearing her advice the young woman took offense. If I’m looking crazy please tell me. As I always say, “Truth may hurt, but a lie could kill me.” Even if I’m lying to myself. At the very least call me out before, as my family says I “rebarrass” myself. Meaning it’s beyond embarrassment. Jeans sagging? And you have the nerve to show up at an interview and cop an attitude that they didn’t even consider you. Wow! This sense of entitlement kills me.
Men may find you sexy, but they’re only looking to do one thing concerning you. If that’s all you want then good for you. You got what you asked for. But I have a sneaking suspicion that you want more. He’s not looking for anything long-term with you. No relationship, no meeting the family will ever happen. It is what it is sweetheart. Ms. Veela wouldn’t lie to you. Don’t go out there and get your feelings hurt. A Queen, a Princess is royalty. Present yourself in the best light every time and every day. It’s true what they say; you only get one chance to make a first impression. Let yours be a good one.
