TODAY'S MY BIRTHDAY
Valentine's Day was the anniversary of Denise's death. I'm so proud of Sheryl Felecia. She is her mother's child. She is the spitting image of her beautiful chocolate skinned mother. I expected her to be here. I took it for granted. She told me, "Vee you have to make sure Sheryl and VJ are taken care of."
After her walking out of the second tower on 9/11 completely unscathed; I thought she was invincible. D was 6'1, and gorgeous. Who else wears heels when they're 6'1? Legs for days. Graduated with her masters in journalism from Northwestern. Before that Clark University, Kappa Sweetheart all four years. She was an AKA. And very proud of it. I was proud to call her my friend.
Denise was a member of Mom's choir; Echoes of Grace. She was very close to Mom. We became close as my roles changed; from wife to mother. I met D when I was 15/16 years old. She was my prayer partner. Mind you; D knew scripture, but she could cuss like a sailor. lol We'd be trying to pray and when she was driving. Not a good idea. She had road rage. She'd start praying and then say, "Excuse me Vee. Hey you m%^^&&f&*ker. Okay I'm back." lol
When I spoke to VJ yesterday I made him cry, but I swear it wasn't me talking. D took over! That's not in my character. I am so blessed. I have a beautiful daughter who is completing the Pharmacy Program at Hampton University. I have another daughter at Spelman in Atlanta. Last but not least; I have a son that is too smart for his own good. But he'll be fine. You see we all have a special angel watching over us; Denise Brown-Means. I miss you every day, but I'm thankful for everything you gave me.
